COMMUNITY Civic Disengagement: Americans are more connected but less engaged -
More Function Based - Less Place Based.

Problem - Low Social Capital means less neighborhood cohesiveness, family does less together, less public good works.

Agenda - be participators not consumers , religion that bridges (not bonding only), workplace social capital (eg. Ipswitch, Inc.), regional planners addressing social capital

False Debate - big Gov't versus small Gov't., top down or bottom up, individual vs. institutional causation (Source: Bowling Alone by Robert Putnam)

To benefit individually you must have collective goals.

THE SUSTAINABILITY SWEET SPOT

Business Interests ----> Sustainability Sweet Spot <---- Stakeholder Interests

  • New Products
  • New Processes
  • New Markets
  • New Business Models
  • New methods of management and reporting

VALUES - DRIVEN TEAM Leading with values:

  • Creates a deeper level of dialogue with teammates (suppliers, employees, consultants, and customers)
  • Requires a "cradle to cradle" philosophy.
  • Integrating your personal and business goals requires a change of perception (from transactional to values driven company). Not a number only (success versus significance).

Values Driven legal representation.

Forms to Litigation ("FLP Plan"): Cost /transactional approach - law firms merely generate forms. Clients request legal "forms" - or when they are in litigation as a result of a "form". Trust,

Respect & Teamwork ("TRT Plan"): Value/team approach, the three legs of a working relationship. This creates a flywheel to grow a business exponentially. The work is proactive and collaborative - not reactive and competitive.
